M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation was founded in 1992 with a vision to make Mental Health services accessible. Three decades later, Chellamuthu Trust is the largest nonprofit in southern Tamil Nadu offering comprehensive rehabilitation services for children, adults and elderly persons with Mental Illness.

Dr.C.Ramasubramanian., M.D., D.P.M., Ph.D.

Dr. C.Ramasubramanian (Dr. CRS), a distinguished luminary in the field of mental health with a rich legacy of over 40 years. Hailing as a trailblazer from Madurai District, his journey has been punctuated by remarkable achievements. Notably, he etched his name in history by securing the pioneering Ph.D. in Community Psychiatry from Madurai Kamaraj University in 2012, building upon earlier laurels from Madurai Medical College. Driven by an unwavering dedication to community psychiatry and psycho-social rehabilitation, his ardor originates from personal encounters with mental health stigma, ignited while caring for his own brother. This ignited his vision for comprehensive mental health rehabilitation services in India.

From humble beginnings, as a tiny spark ignited by Dr.CRS, we started out as a small family trust running a home for persons with mental illness. Today, we have become the number one provider of Mental Health services in southern Tamil Nadu with operations in six districts.

M.S. Chellamuthu Institute of Mental health and Rehabilitation was started in the year 2008 as one of the initiatives of Chellamuthu Trust to bridge the gap in the availability of mental health professionals and thereby make mental health services available and accessible to all.

Family plays a major role in rehabilitation of alcoholics

The role played by family members in the rehabilitation and recovery of persons with alcohol addiction was discussed at the ninth year anniversary celebrations of Alcoholics Anonymous (Melur) on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Director (Programmes) of M. S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation K.S.P. Janardhan Babu said that family members played a major role in the rehabilitation and recovery process.
