  • CONTRIBUTION OF THE TRUST IN STRENGTHENING GOVERNM


    Ramanathapuram District Mental Health Programme:
      The Trust is instrumental in shaping the District Mental Health Programme of Ramanathapuram District, Tamilnadu which is benefiting 5000 people in the district. The Trust is nominated as Technical Advisor to the Ramanathapuram Mental Health Programme.
     

    Vazhndhu Kattuvom:
     

    Tamil Nadu Vazhndhu Kattuvum Society has been established by the Department of Rural Development and Local Administration with the assistance of World Bank to reduce the level of poverty in the society.

    The Trust is designated as Block Level Disability Facilitating Agency (BDFA) for the Bogalur and Kamankottai Block in Ramnad District of Tamilnadu for a period of 2yrs, from February 2007 to strengthen the activities relating to the persons with disabilities.

     

    HIV/AIDS Initiative:
     
    The Trust is recognized as a “Centre of Excellence” by Tamilnadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) to conduct training on HIV/AIDS Counseling to the Counsellors of Integrated Counseling and Testing Centres (ICTC) run by TANSACS and the Nurses.
     
     
    The Trust is involved in conducting 12 days training on HIV/AIDS counseling for around 200 counsellors working in the ICTC’s in 10 Southern Districts of Tamilnadu.
    The Trust is also engaged in providing mental health services to the persons living with HIV/AIDS with mental health complications
     

    SNAP (National Trust):
     
    The National Trust has recognized our Trust as State Nodal Agency Partner for 10 districts in Tamil Nadu for working for the persons with disability to Co-ordinate and liaison with district authorities and district collector for achieving the objectives and propagate and create awareness about the activities
     
     
    of National Trust and to work as an information and resource centre in the remote areas in coordination with State Nodal Agency Centre (SNAC).
  • PROGRAMMES WITH NATIONAL SUPPORT

    W.H.O - INDIA
    Life skills for Mental Health:
    The Trust is involved in developing a model on ‘Life Skills Based School Health Programme” with the support of WHO-India. 10 schools were identified in the city of Madurai and Life Skills training is given to the teachers, parents and peer leaders. The outcome of the initiative is very positive. Teachers have reported changes in their behaviour toward children.
    As part of this initiative, Student Support Centre (SSC) is started in all the participating schools to ensure psycho social support to all the students.
     
    These SSC’s are represented by students, parents and teachers with the head of the institution as a chairperson. The professional representative of the Trust is co-opted as a technical advisor to the centre.
    SSC’s have started ‘Yellow Ribbon Club’ to initiate dialogue among the students on mental health related issues.
    The internal mechanisms created in each school help sustain various activities that have a bearing on the health of students.
    The Trust has also come out with a training manual which will be useful in introducing similar programmes in other locations.
     
    Disaster Mental Health Programme:

    The Trust in collaboration with the Institute of Psychiatry, Govt.Rajaji Hospital, Madurai and with the support of WHO-India was involved in training General Medical Practitioners (Private and Public) and Social Workers in the 10 coastal districts of Tamilnadu on Disaster Mental Health.

    250 persons were trained and a directory with the details of these practitioners is made available with the District administration to use these trained resources at times of need.

     
World Mental Health Week Celebrations  - 10.10.10

To commemorate the 18th Annual world Mental Health Day on 10th October 2010, M.S.Chellamuthu Trust & Research Foundation, dedicated to the cause of the Persons suffering with mental disabilities, organised a week long programme with focus on WHO’s theme “MENTAL HEALTH AND CHRONIC PHYSICAL ILLNESSES - THE NEED FOR CONTINUED AND INTEGRATED CARE”.
