| A wish… becomes a reality! |
“No person with mental illness and their family members should suffer for want of treatment”
This wish of Shri.M.S.Chellamuthu became the clarion call for his son, a Psychiatrist who took up this profession to translate the wish into a reality.
Shri.M.S.Chellamuthu, was an engineer by profession and a most respected person in the Public Works Department of the State Government of TamilNadu.
The personal and family sufferings in managing a member of the family with mental illness, that too at a time when mental health care services were scarce and limited to only those living in big cities, urged Shri.M.S.Chelamuthu to make fervent appeal to his son who was doing medicine at that time to take up psychiatry. |

This passionate appeal prompted his son Dr.C.Ramasubramanian to take up psychiatry.
In his practice as a psychiatrist, he also found that there was a huge gap between the mental health needs and the mental health services and worst sufferers were the poor in the society. In order to respond to the wish and the mental health realities, Dr.C.Ramasubramanian took the initiative of launching a Trust with a singular mission of addressing the mental health needs and thereby contribute to better quality of life.
The Trust was founded on 16th September 1992, the Birth Anniversary Day of Shri.M.S.Chellamuthu and registered under the Indian Trust Act.
Today, M.S.Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation is a single largest provider of mental health services ranging from Promotion of Mental Health, Early Identification, Treatment and Rehabilitation. |
