Aakaash Special School (A unit of MS Chellamuthu Trust & Research Foundation) was started in 2000 to provide free special education to children with mental disability from poor families in the villages in Madurai East region.
We participate in different types of sports events conducted by the government as well as private organizations to nurture and highlight the sports talents of special children. Tamil Nadu Paralympic Sports Association along with Alagappa University conducted the 15th State level Paralympic athletic meet from August 16-18, 2019.
The sports meet was held at Alagappa Physical Education College ground, Karaikudi. Prof. N. Rajendran, Vice Chancellor, Alagappa University, was the Chief Guest. The program started with the special run for dwarfs with a gunshot by Prof. N. Rajendran. Mr. Ranjith Kumar, Vice-President, Paralympic Sports Association, welcomed the gathering. Prof. Sundar, Principal, Alagappa Physical Education College, felicitated.
Nearly 360 participants from all districts of Tamil Nadu participated. Four students from Aakaash School participated and won prizes. The following events were conducted for students in various categories like wheel chair, partial amputee, complete amputee, blind, and cerebral palsy – Running (100, 200, 400, 800 & 1500 meters), Running, Long jump, Shotput, for Intellectual Disability Category – Javelin Throw, Hammer Throw, Discus Throw, 5000 m Running and Triple Jump.
Such events help our children:
• To improve their activeness, skills and motor abilities
• To relax their mind
• To understand the value of sports
• To behave appropriately during play when they go outside.
The list of Aakaash prize winners:
• M. Shantha Kumar won the III Place in 800m Running
• M. Sampath Kumar won the IV place in Shotput & 1500 m Running
• V. Praveen Kumar won the IV place in 200m Running
• S. Nithish Kumar participated in 100m & 200m Running & Long Jump
