Gerard Helmink, Founder of the Dutch Foundation SARI, and his two sons David Helmink and Huib Derk made their annual visit to Bodhi-Chellamuthu Gardens on February 22, 2017, to review the Trust activities. The guestswere received by Aakaash school students and the staff took them on a conducted tour of the campus. They observed the activities in various units like the Aakaash special school, HP-Tele psychiatric unit, bakery, library, charity shop and dairy farming.
At the Aakaash School the visitorsinteracted with students and staff. They were curious about the teaching methods used in the classroom and the various activities of the school. The team also visited the block in Aakaash built with resource support by SARI andsaw the newly created facility for residential training programmes conducted by theChellamuthu Institute of Training. The teamalso visitedother projects like nursing care station, MI Home, the modern kitchen and LCIF dining hall.
GerardHelminkexpressed his happiness to see the incremental developments of MSCT&RF in mental health and said that every year trust was initiating new projects in mental health. He appreciated the commitment of the staff team in ensuring quality of life and dignity for people with mental disabilities.
Huib Derk also expressed his happiness on seeing the different programmes of the trust and assured that he would continue to support the trust in every possible way.
David Helmink said that he was gratified to see the close knit team work and the warmth and hospitality of the staff team.
The staff team felt motivated to listen to such honest appreciation and it encouraged our resolve to make further differences in the lives of this marginalized and disempowered community.
The one-day visit was coo ordinated by Rajakumari Ramasubramanian, Executive Director, MSCT&RF, andthe Bodhi staff team.
