Aakaash Special School, a project of MSCT&RF, organized an inter school sports meet for special children on June 28, 2019 at Mahatma Residential School stadium, Alagarkovil, Madurai.
The meet commemorates the Silver Jubilee Year of Aakaash Special School, which takes place in 2020. It also sought to empower the differently abled children towards mainstream reintegration. Mrs. T. Buvaneswari Principal-Incharge, Aakaash Special School, Madurai, in her address highlighted the importance of the conducting sports meet for special children.
Over 350 participants and caretakers from TVS-BSS, Sparks Vidyalaya, Shine, Akshya, Able Kids, YMCA, Neyam, Sairam and Aakaash participated. Various competitions like side ball passing, snow bowing, 50mts running, sorting color balls, filling the water bottle, shot-put, relay, long jump and lucky draw were customized for children with special needs. This event was supported by staff volunteers from Madura College Hr.Sec. School, Madurai, and SHARE volunteers, MSCT&RF.
Mrs. Lalitha Sairam, a Sai devotee, and Mr. Venkatraman, Principal, Mahatma Residential School, Alagarkovil, Madurai, inaugurated the inter school sports meet. They appreciated Aakaash for initiating the sports meet for children with special needs.
Dr. MACS Rajendran, Founder Chairman, Shenbagam Hospital, Madurai, delivered the chief guest address and appreciated the tireless efforts of MSCT&RF in championing the cause of children with special needs. He also distributed prizes to the winners.
Mr. S. Parthasarathy, Secretary, Madura College Hr. Sec. School, Madurai, in his special address, appreciated all special teachers and caregivers for their continuous effort for the betterment of children with special needs. He, along with his wife Mrs. Usha Parthasarathy, distributed prizes and certificates to the outstanding special children from various special schools. The couple, with a passion for social causes, also sponsored the sports meet with delicious lunch, unlimited snacks, refreshments and juice. Student volunteers and staff volunteers from Madura College Hr. Sec. School, Madurai, participated with zeal and enthusiasm.
Mr. K. B. Piramanayagam, DDAWO-Madurai, delivered the inaugural address. Dr. C. Ramasubramanian, Founder, MSCT&RF, welcomed the gathering and provided an overview of the significance of this sports meet and reiterated the need to create an inclusive and barrier-free society for children with special needs.
Mrs. R. Rajkumari, Executive Director, MSCT&RF, felicitated. She lauded the initiative and appealed to the organizers to organize a sports meet for special children once in two years.
Students of Aakaash Special School entertained the audience with cultural activities.
The YMCA Special School bagged the overall excellence shield.
Mr. Joshva, Special Educator, proposed the vote of thanks.
