Dedicated to the cause of the persons suffering with Mental Disabilities, M.S.Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation organized the 25th Annual World Mental Health Day Global Awareness Campaign in Madurai & Virudhunagar Districts from 8th to 15th October 2017. The 2017 campaign focused on World Health Organization (WHO) theme “Mental Health in the Workplace”. During our adult lives, a large proportion of our time is spent at work. Our experience in the workplace is one of the factors determining our overall wellbeing. Employers and managers who put in place workplace initiatives to promote mental health and to support employees who have mental disorders see gains not only in the health of their employees but also in their productivity at work. A negative working environment, on the other hand, may lead to physical and mental health problems, harmful use of substances or alcohol, absenteeism and lost productivity. On 8th October, 2017 Care Givers meet was held at M.S.Chellamuthu Gardens, Alagarkovil, Madurai. Thiru.Moora & Smt.Manjula, famous Tamil Poets of Madurai grace the occasion as guest of honor. Residents exhibited their outstanding talents by cultural programmes was very much appreciated and they were recognised. Nearly 125 care givers participated on the occasion. From 9th October 2017 to 10th October 2017, Awareness Campaign for the students community was held at American College, Apollo College of Nursing and at Yadhava College. Dr.K.Sekar, Professor and Registrar, NIMHANS, Bangalore and Dr.C.Ramasubramanian, Founder of M.S.C.T&RF State Nodal Officer, District Mental Health Programme addressed the students and faculties on “Mental Health of Young Adults” at American College. Followed by that, Dr. Vikhram Ramasubramanian, Consultant Psychiatrist, Ahana Hospitals, Prof.G.GuruBharathi, Principal, M.S.Chellamuthu Institute, Dr.M.Kannan, Former Principal, MISS, Madurai and Dr. Helen, Associate Prof, Shri Meenakshi Government College. Delivered speech on “Mental Health in Workplace” for teaching and non teaching staffs on the occasion. Nearly 4000 participants actively participated and benefited. On 10th October 2017, 250 Nursing students from Apollo College of Nursing actively participated in the Awarness Campaign, Depicting the theme on Role of Nursing Professionals in promoting Mental Health at Workplace. Mr.K.S.P.J.Babu, Director Programmes , M.S.C.T&RF facilitated discussion among Nursing Professionals on the occasion. Similarly, Mr.M.Ramu, Team Leader and Mr.Rajangam, Senior Social Worker from the trust addressed the students of Yadhava College on positive Mental Health. In the afternoon session faculties were sensitised on the importance of Mental Health at Workplace by Mr.Babu of the trust. Nearly 1500 students and 175 faculties participated. On 11th October, 2017 Social Work Students from Bharathidasan University took part in the Workshop promoting Mental Health among students community held at M.S.Chellamuthu Gardens. Mr Babu, Mr Muniyasamy and Ms.Ambika mental health professionals of the trust facilitated this workshop. 125 students participated and benefited. On 15th October 2017 trust joined hands with Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samrithi at Sivakasi, organized Mental Health Awarness Campaign for the Pharmacy students of Bhuvaneswari Sankara Lingam college of Pharmacy and for the Sai volunteers. Psychiatrists, Dr.Ganesh Kumar and Dr.Rajesh Kumar addressed the gathering. Nearly 150 participants benefited from this Campaign.
