The Community Mental Health Project (CMHP) supported by Andheri-Hilfe, Bonn, Germany, a flagship programme of MSCT&RF, organized the annual meet of the family association of persons with mental disabilities at Chellamuthu Gardens, Alagarkoil, on May 26, 2018.
Dr. Aneesh Sekhar, IAS, Commissioner, Madurai Corporation, was the chief guest. He appreciated MSCT&RF for its numerous initiatives to help the people with mental disabilities especially in rural areas. He lauded the efforts taken by the caregivers, who have stood behind their loved ones in mainstreaming them into the community.
Jeyanthi Raju, Founder, R.J. Tamilmani Charitable and Educational Trust, Madurai, distributed subsidy loan to care givers of persons with mental disabilities towards establishing goat and dairy farming at their project site near Madurai West and Natham Block and offered felicitations.
Dr. Satheesh Raghavan, City Health Officer, Madurai Corporation and Dr. Parthiban Assistant Health Officer, also felicitated.
Dr. C. Ramasubrmanian, Founder, MSCT&RF, witnessed the commendable work done by the Corporation of Madurai, under the leadership of Dr. Aneesh Sekhar, Commissioner, Madurai Corporation, to launch Happy Schooling, a public-private partnership between the Corporation of Madurai and MSCTRF to promote mental health and well being among school children.
Prof. S. Koodalingam, Team Leader, CMHP, briefed about the various activities of the project and importance of conducting periodical mental health camps for the rural population to ensure awareness on key mental health issues.
Earlier, caregivers Rajathi of Senthurai village, Haneefa and Solai Alagan from Siruvathur village from the respective Project Areas, shared their experience with positive attitude and motivation. Devaraj and Sakthivel, differently abled students from the project site who cleared the recent SSLC examination were recognized and the dedicated staff team of the community mental health project were also recognized on the occasion.
