The Valedictory Function of three months skill development project on “Empowerment of Recovered Persons of Mental Illness through Dairy Farming Activity in Madurai District” a joint initiative of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), Chennai Tamil Nadu Pudhu Vaazhvu Project, Chennai and Mahindra Consulting Engineers Ltd,Chennai, was held on 14th August, 2015 at M.S Chellamuthu Gardens.
District Collector Dr.L.Subramanian, during his presidential address, stated through Pudhu Vaazhvu Project a sanction of Rs.20,000 was made to each member and construction of shed adjacent to their homes under “DRDA” scheme. He awarded the trainees with course completion certificates.
Dr.S.Thilagar, Vice Chancellor, TANUVAS, Chennai, after handing over the calves and certificates to the trainees, said shortly similar curriculum on goat and poultry farm training for the persons with mental disabilities is to be started and is planning to introduce value addition milk products in the near future.
Mr.C.S .Narayanan, Chief operating officer, Mahindra Consulting Engineers Ltd, Chennai, in his special address said, this pilot project has been recognized as Best CSR project under convergence model by his company at Delhi.
This pilot project would be a replicable model from District to National level said Dr.D.Thyagarajan, Director of Extension Education,TANUVAS, Chennai.

Dr.Pannai Muruganandam, Professor & Head, Veterinary University Training & Research Centre, Thiruparankundram, Madurai, was the training facilitator. He presented feedback report that this skill training program developed self-confidence among the trainees and empowered them towards self sustenance. Mr.Vinoth Kannan , Mr.Varadarajan, trainees and their parents expressed their thankfulness and requested for more such refresher trainings in the near future.
