The parents of the persons with mental disabilities face several legal issues pertaining to Guardianship, Family Pension benefit, problems related to properties, need for institutional care for destitutes, etc. All these were in low key and thus the service of the judicial support was strongly felt. The Free Legal Aid Clinic with the support of Madurai District Legal Services Authority was inaugurated on 8th April, 2010, and is functioning in the premise of M.S.Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation, Madurai. So far, 565 families have availed the Legal Aid Services from MSCTRF.
Hon’ble Justice Thiru G.M. Akbar Ali was Instrumental to start Free Legal Aid Clinic for the Persons with Mental Disabilities at MSCTRF. To recognize his great service and humanitarian approach to many of the marginalized and under privileged sections in the society, particularly persons with mental disabilities, MSCTRF organized a felicitation programme on 18.12.2014 at M.S.Chellamuthu Gardens joining hands with District Legal Aid Services Authority and Subitcham – Care Givers Association of MSCTRF. Hon’ble Justice Thiru G.M. Akbar Ali always has a great concern for the persons with mental disabilities quoting them as “Beautiful Children”. He contributed remarkably to the welfare of the common man through his high caliber of judicial efficiency.
