International Women’s Day was celebrated by the Trust on 8.03.2016 at VRIKSHA, a Psycho Social Rehabilitation Centre exclusively for Women with Mental Disabilities at Madurai. Women residents and staff members from various units participated in the event. Mr. K.S.P.J.Babu, Director- Programme welcomed and introduced the guests to audience.
With the aim to recognise outstanding Women achievers, like Journalists and Entrepreneurs, the Trust awards outstanding women who have contributed for the empowerment of Women every year on this occasion. This year Mrs. M.M.Jeya Lakshmi, Senior Reporter, Dinamalar, Madurai was identified and recognised for her outstanding contribution as a women journalist in the empowerment of women. She extolled the role of Women in various fields of entrepreneurship.
Mr. R.Muthiah, Deputy General Manager, Zonal Manager of Indian Bank, Zonal Office Madurai Chief Guest stressed the importance of equality among Men and Women in life and added that he felt rejuvenated after watching the talent show of the beneficiaries. Mrs. R.Rajkumari, Executive Director delivered Special Address. Ms.S.Selvaqgomathy Deputy Director, SOCO Trust, Madurai and other dignitaries graced the occasion with their august presence.
Competitions were held in Poetry, Rangoli, Mime and group dance for the Women residents and staff members. Prizes were distributed to the winners and participants. Mrs.Latha Gurubharathy, Director – Programme proposed vote of thanks.
