Vriksha, a project of MS Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCT&RF), celebrated International Women’s Day (March 8, 2020), at MS Chellamuthu Gardens, a psycho social rehabilitation centre for persons with mental disabilities run by the trust at Alagar Kovil, Madurai
On this occasion, MSCT&RF confers the International Women’s Day Award 2020 for outstanding women achievers. This year’s recipient was Smt. M. Latha Mohan, a qualified Special Educator and Head Mistress of the Speech and Hearing Impaired School, Villupuram, in recognition of her outstanding services for persons with speech and hearing impairment and mental challenges for the past 28 years .
The award was presented by Thiru. N. Natrajan, Joint Commissioner and Executive Officer, Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Madurai, in the presence of Thiru. S. Annamalai, Chief of Bureau (Retd), The Hindu, Madurai, Thiru Ellapan, Treasurer, SUBITCHAM – Family fellowship, Madurai, Mrs. R. Rajkumari, Executive Director, Mrs. Latha Gurubarathy, Director Administration, MSCT&RF and Mr. K.S.P.J. Babu, Director Programmes, MSCT&RF.
Mr. Babu welcomed the gathering and highlighted the noble services rendered by Smt. M. Latha Mohan from Vela Institution for Social Action and Development (VISAD).
Staff of MSCT&RF staged a thought-provoking skit that highlighted empowering the girl child and the role of parents through education. Beneficiaries from various projects run by the trust entertained the audience with their splendid cultural performances. The birth day celebrations of beneficiaries took place on the occasion. Ms. Soundariya, a beneficiary from Vriksha, spoke about the significant contribution of mother superior through story telling.
Thiru. S. Annamalai, in his felicitation speech applauded the trust in hits various initiatives towards mainstreaming the persons with Mental Disabilities. Thiru. N. Natrajan appreciated the hard work, sincerity, commitment of Smt.M. Latha Mohan and her family for their outstanding services in the field of disability.

In her acceptance speech, Smt. M. Latha Mohan, said that she was very proud to be the recipient of this award and acknowledged that it was a great honour. Earlier she was taken around the campus and interacted with the residents of the trust.
Around 150 participants that included parents of residents, share volunteers, members of SUBITCHAM-Family Fellowship, well-wishers, media persons and mental health professionals from all units of the trust participated.
