M.S.Chellamuthu Institute of Mental Health and Rehabilitation (MSCIMHR),organized a five-day residential Orientation Training in Clinical Psychologyfor students fromthe Department of Applied Psychology, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriberumbudur, from January 9-13, 2017.
The theory classes were conducted at Bodhi Residential Care Centre, Alagar Koil, and practical sessions at Ahana Hospitals, Madurai. Nine studentsparticipated. The training was facilitated by Dr.M.Selvi, Clinical Psychologist, Ahana Hospitals; Mr.Gopi, Psychologist, AHANA Hospitals; Dr.R.Vikhram, Psychiatrist, Ahana Hospitals; and a team of mental health professionals.
Participants acquired knowledge and understanding ofvarious key concepts in clinical psychology such as clinical case history taking, Mental Status Examination (MSE)- Part 1, (MSE)- Part 2, basic mental health rating scales, therapy for children and adolescents, clinical practicum, cognitive assessments, psychotherapy for Adults (Part 1, Part 2), semi-projective and projective tests.
Participants were permitted to observe the Case Conference where mental health professionals presentedcase studies. This enabled the former to acquireconfidence to deal difficult patients. Later participants presented their overall experience to the panel, which consisted of a team of mental health professionals: Prof.G.Gurubharathy (Consultant, MSCT&RF), Dr.M.Kannan(Research Consultant, MSCT&RF),Dr.R.Vikram (Psychiatrist, Ahana Hospitals), Dr.M.Selvi (Clinical Psychologist, Ahana Hospitals),R.Kayalvizhi (Assistant Professor, MSCIMHR), M.Maria Antony Raj (Research Associate, MSCT&RF), and M.Kavitha, (Programme Manager, (MSCIMHR). The presentations were followed by interactions with the panelists.
Finally students submitted their individual reports to the institute. On completion of training participants provided with certificates that mentioned the clinical hours they logged in.
