In response to growing mental health concerns among children and adolescents, Project Happy Schooling, a joint initiative of Madurai Corporation, HCL Foundation and M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCT&RF), Madurai, is being implemented in 24 schools run by Madurai Corporation. The aim of the project is to promote mental wellbeing of the students through a comprehensive mental health care system and thereby achieve academic excellence.
The core strategy of the project is to establish Student Support Centres in each school and through these centres initiate mental health related activities for all the stakeholders. The core program interventions include the following: mental health literacy, mental health competence building among teachers, counselling and referral support for students in distress and resilience building.
In recognising the contribution of Project Happy Schooling towards the holistic development of students studying in the schools run by Madurai Corporation, this project received an award as one of the best projects under the development initiative during the 71st Republic Day Celebration held at Madurai Corporation.
We are thankful to The Commissioner, Chief Education Officer, Heads of Schools and Teachers of Madurai Corporation and HCL Foundation for their support in making schooling a joyful and memorable experience for students.
