A talent show is an event where participants of all ages and sectors showcase their talents in the form of singing, dancing, acting, playing an instrument, or other activities To encourage and motivate participants, recognition is provided in the form of rewards and positive reinforcement. In the field of mental disability, talent shows can be seen as a way to motivate persons with mental disabilities, boost their self-esteem, confidence, and thereby promote a quality of life.
Keeping this in mind, the Centre for Psycho Social Rehabilitation, a project of M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation organized a talent show on July 28, 2018, at Bodhi M.S. Chellamuthu Gardens, for persons with mental disabilities. The event show cased the unique individual talents of persons with mental disabilities and acknowledged and valued them.
On this day, various programmes was organized at Chellamuthu Gardens which included Drawing, Essay writing, Poetry, Singing, Dancing, Playing an Instrument, Drama, Fancy dress and Elocution Competition. Nearly 100 participants from various projects of the trust participated wholeheartedly. The judges for the competition were care givers of SUBITCHAM and volunteers of SHARE.
In the valedictory function, Lion Ganesh Shamsukha, President Lions Club of Madurai city and key members of the Club, Lion Palanisamy and Lion Er. Kumareshbabu, who was invited as the Chief Guest, participated. The President of the Club, lauded the commendable work of the trust and distributed prizes for outstanding performers.
Persons with mental disabilities said that that such programmes enabled them to showcase their hidden talents, develop self-confidence and even enabled to take part in such events outside the campus.
K.S.P. Janardhan Babu, Director Programmes, MSCT&RF, welcomed the gathering and M. Ramu, Sr. Consultant, proposed the vote of thanks.
