A two days training program on “Psychosocial Rehabilitation” was held for social workers from M.S.Chellamthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCTRF) on 25th and 26th April, 2015 at Bodhi in Chellamuthu Gardens. Dr.Rajaram Subbian, Psychosocial Consultant was the resource person. He has extensive experience in the field of psychosocial rehabilitation and has been a proficient trainer for many years. About 21 staff, including team leaders, social workers, special educators and staff nurses participated in the program. Various topics relevant for psycho-social rehabilitation were discussed. Some of them were:
• Psycho-social rehabilitation- an understanding
• Critical areas in case history taking
• Preparation of Rehabilitation goals
• Common intervention in psycho-social rehabilitation
• Skills essential for working in a psycho-social rehabilitation centre
• Handling patients with chronic mental illness (ex: schizophrenia)
• Basic life skills and its relevance for patients
• Conducting of effective group therapy sessions
• Current Global approaches to psycho-social rehabilitation
The sessions were made participatory with good topic discussions, experiential activities, games, case presentations and group activities. The two days program helped enhance the professional skills of the staff in working with persons with mental illness in a Psycho-social rehabilitation centre.
