The Golden Jubilee Celebration of Psychiatric Social Work Education in the Department of Psychiatric Social Work at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and the XXXVII Annual National Conference of the Indian Society of Professional Social Work (ISPSW) was held in January 2019. This conference was hosted by the Department of Psychiatric Social Work from January 3-5, 2019 at the Convention Centre, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, India.
The Theme of the conference iwas‘Social Work and Wellbeing – Practice and Strategies’ with sub-themes encompassing services, practices, research and training. The conference was an opportunity for meaningful interactions among students, scholars, practitioners and social work educators. It also felicitated the “Great Contributors” in the field of Professional Social Work in India.
Four free papers from MSCT&RF were presented on the following themes: Homeless Persons with Mental Illness, Juveniles with addiction, Quality of Life, Care Giver burden and Livelihood promotion.
The following social workers from the trust: Mr. S. Ramu, Sr. Consultant, Mr. Sankara Pandian, Sr. Consultant and Mr. Rajangam, Sr. Social worker, presented the papers. Mr. Pitchaivel, Sr. Social worker, Mr. Muniyasamy, Social Worker, Mrs. Shanthi, Social Worker and Ms. Pushpalatha, Social Worker, participated.
Mr. K.S.P. Janardhan Babu, Director Programmes, was given the honour to moderate concurrent session on the theme “Adolescent-Addiction-Social Media” on the second day of the conference.
The conference created a wonderful platform for academicians, practitioners, and research scholars, to strengthen the practice of professional psychiatric social work P in the years to come. Nearly 600 delegates across the states participated.
