The need to help those who harbor suicidal thoughts and contemplate suicide resulted in the establishment of Priyam – a suicide prevention centre in 2003. It has it’s focus on mobilizing public support for the prevention of suicide and to provide psycho social support to the persons in distress and thereby help them cope with the distress. Activities such as awareness building, counseling, home visits, life skills training, help line and formation of survivors of suicide groups are carried out.
Establishing youth groups in educational institutions to create awareness about suicide prevention in the theme of “celebrating life”. Further Trust joining hands with district mental health programme of Tamilnadu to lend the technical support in establishing “Pudhu Yugam” a project supported by Government of Tamilnadu towards bringing awareness against suicide.
